Santiago Way – El Camino
It does not matter if you come walking the French way from Oloron-Saint Marie and Borce, or if you are ready to start your way from Somport, Hotel Santa Cristina is the perfect spot for you pilgrims. First-aid kit at the disposal of all pilgrims. Credential stamps for your Pilgrim´s Passport.
Santiago’s French way across Aragon follows the river Aragon and passes by our door. Santa Cristina is 853 km from Santiago, following the “Tolouse route”. The stage starts at Somport (5 km away from our Hotel), crosses the ski resort of Candanchu, passes by our Hotel, continues to Canfranc-Station, Canfranc, Villanua, Castiello and ends in the city of Jaca (22 kms away from our Hotel). The Aragonese part of the Santiago way has been declared by Unesco as Human Heritage.
Our Hotel is named after the old pilgrim Hospital of Santa Cristina of Somport, which was one of the most important of the Christianity, and which ruins are less than 2 miles away from our Hotel. You will be able to get the official seal of the Santiago Way on your pilgrim passport, as well as give you support and advice in your route to Santiago. We highly recommend you this web www.jacajacobea.com
Our region of Jacetania is well known for its abundance of Romanesque art, considered as one for the most important in Spain, as the Somport (“Summum Portus Pirinae” in latin) was a strategical entry, not only for travellers and goods, but for cultural and spiritual streams of thought in the Middle Ages.
We also encourage you to visit Jaca and its magnificent Diocesan Museum as well as its stunning Cathedral. Another milestone, would be, no doubt, San Juan de la Peña Monastery.
